Aquatic Biomes

Aquatic Biomes     We all have seen different types of bodies of water. Rather it be lakes, oceans, or rivers. Many people, like myself, take vacations to the beach to be able to swim in the ocean, or go to the lake to go tubing. But what makes each of these bodies of water and others so different? I mean to many people it is just a body of water, but you will find out that there is so much more to these biomes than you think. Oceans     First, I will talk about Oceans. Most people have been to the ocean and love it. One of the most popular places to go on vacation is to go to the beach. Everyone loves to go swimming in the ocean or to lay by the water and relax. There are cruise ships that go in the middle of the  ocean and that will stay for a whole week, and this is another "vacation" for us. Many times when we talk about the ocean this is what we think of, just some vacation spot. But what really makes the ocean the ocean? Well let's find out! First, t...

Mitosis

Mitosis     Many people learn about mitosis when they are in middle school, the first time I remember learning about mitosis was in 7th grade, and then I learned about it again in high school biology. So, it's not something that you probably have no idea what it is, but there is much more to it than you probably think! So, first I am going to go over the basics. What is mitosis? Mitosis has to do with the things we see in everyday life! The plants we see, the intestines in our body, the birds you see, and so much more all are made of cells, and go through mitosis. Mitosis is the process where a cell replicates its chromosomes and then segregates them, making two identical nuclei in  preparation for cell division. Mitosis is generally by equal cell division of the cells content into two daughter cells that have identical genomes. To break it down even more you could say this, it is like making copies of an instruction manual. Copy each page, and then give one copy to...

Photosynthesis

Has anyone ever wondered how plants are able to  "eat" food, and grow like us humans do? Have you ever wondered where the oxygen we breathe comes from? Well, it's actually pretty simple! It's a process called photosynthesis. You're probably thinking, what in the world is photosynthesis? Well I'll tell you! Most life on earth actually depends on photosynthesis. Plants, algae, and some types of bacteria all use photosynthesis. Basically, the plants, algae, etc. all create sugar and oxygen from carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight. Carbon dioxide, light, water goes in. Glucose, water and oxygen come out. Basically, how we live all depends on photosynthesis. Because if we didn't have photosynthesis, then we wouldn't have plants. And if we didn't have plants then we wouldn't have herbivores (animals that only eat plants), and if we didn't have herbivores then we wouldn't have food for us to eat. Not only that, but it provides the oxy...
